Keanu Reeves wurde am 2. September 1964 in Beirut, Libanon, geboren und wuchs überwiegend in New York und Toronto auf, wo er schon früh den Wunsch entwickelte, Schauspieler zu werden. Nach dem Schulabschluss besuchte er die Hochschule für Schauspielkunst in Toronto und begann seine Karriere am Theater, bevor er Mitte der 1980er Jahre in den Film einstieg.
Sein großer Durchbruch gelang ihm mit der Rolle des Ted in „Bill & Ted's verrückte Reise durch die Zeit“. Internationale Bekanntheit erreichte er 1994 durch den Actionfilm „Speed“ an der Seite von Sandra Bullock.

Neben der Matrix-Reihe spielte Reeves in vielfältigen Filmen wie „Gefährliche Brandung“ (1991), „My Own Private Idaho“ (1991), „Dracula“ (1992) und „John Wick“ (seit 2014), dessen Actionfranchise ihm auch ein erfolgreiches Comeback bescherte. Er ist bekannt dafür, viele seiner Stunts selbst auszuführen und sich intensiv auf seine Rollen vorzubereiten, beispielsweise durch das Erlernen zahlreicher Kampfsporttechniken für „Matrix“.
Reeves ist auch Bassist in den Bands Dogstar und Becky, veröffentlichte ein Buch („Ode an die Freude“) und gab 2013 sein Regiedebüt mit dem Film „Man of Tai Chi“. Trotz seines Erfolgs hält er sein Privatleben überwiegend zurückgezogen und lebt in Los Angeles und New York.
Seine Karriere umfasst über 70 Filmprojekte mit einer Mischung aus Action, Drama und Thriller. Für seine Leistungen erhielt er mehrere Auszeichnungen wie MTV Awards, den Blockbuster Entertainment Award und den Bambi.
